Microsoft .NET

.NET is the Microsoft solution for Web services (small building-block applications that can connect to each other as well as to other, larger applications over the Internet).

.NET is a technology that enables the creation and use of XML-based applications, processes, and websites that share and combine information and functionality with each other to provide tailored solutions for organisations and individuals.

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a new component in the Windows operating system family. It forms the foundation for the next generation of Windows-based applications, making them easier to create, deploy and integrate with other networked systems.

The .NET Framework is largely transparent to the end user - most will never notice that it is running on their Pocket PC, smartphone, or desktop computer.

The .NET Framework is designed to help software developers and systems administrators create and maintain systems with strong performance, security, and reliability.

Microsoft’s .NET website contains a large amount of information on .NET, web services, the .NET Framework and .NET products and services.
