E-Mail

Thu 19 Oct 2006

E-Mail is probably the most prevalent form of online collaboration. Today's sophisticated e-mail systems can also help you manage your contacts, calendar and to-do list by integrating into other office applications. Web based access allows users to log into to e-mail from anywhere in the world. E-mail can handle ever larger attachments and file sizes, with even free webmail packages offering 1GB of space.

The success of e-mail is not without its downsides though. Spam has become an increasing problem in recent years, leading to inboxes flooded with unwanted adverts for products that are of no interest to the recipient. Viruses are an issue too, with many e-mail borne viruses attacking the world's users.

However, e-mail technology has fought back, and offers solutions to combat these threats.

Webmail providers such as Yahoo! Mail, Hotmail and Gmail are popular due to their low cost (free for the basic offering), large storage capacities and accessibility from anywhere with web access.
